This is the common maguey plant, introduced into the Philipines at an early date from Mexico, but described by Roxburgh from specimens cultivated in India. Following Naves I previously considered it to be a form of Agave rigida Mill. Its proper name is apparently Agave cantala Roxb., although, so far as I know at present, this exact form has not been discovered in Mexico.
