Shrub to 2m., branched below with wandlike stems, brown and smooth below ; flowering stems with inflated internodes, purple-tinged with glaucous bloom ; lvs. odourless, mid-green above, somewhat rigid and curved, grey-green beneath ; inflorescences much branched above, erect to ascending ; calyces red-tinged ; corolla lilac with large whitish bilobed area at base of upper lip ; anthers deep yellow, filaments pale-lilac ; style deep purple
