Tuber not seen. Stem above ground LH, to 6 m, terete, unarmed, wiry, ca 2 mm diam., purple to brown or red-brown, lateral nodal organs concolorous, tough on main stems. Leaves in groups of up to 5 on short side shoots, pulvinii pale green, petioles pale green, some with purple markings, pulvinii paler; blades dark green above, paler below, with variable amount of white spotting (pathogen?). Infrs as stems (immature), capsules (immature) purple-hued, darker on margins with axis paler but most dry, brown and dehisced already.
