Herbaceous vine with crisp juicy pale green stems, ridged to squarish, redish on the nodes, leaves crisply herbaceous, smooth, shiny pale to bright green above, pale green and nerves prom. below, inflor. and calyx pale green, corolla cream, young fruits shiny scarlet, turning almost black at maturity
